Playground returns!

Our top priority when campaigning over the past few years has been that Birmingham City Council must reinstate the children’s playground which was ripped out to make way for a temporary access road for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Originally, the Commonwealth Games organising committee was meant to reinstate play equipment by the end of December 2022 - but they passed the buck, and a sizeable sum of money, to the council who agreed to undertake the task.

Finally, in March 2025, nearly three years after the Games, local kids have somewhere safe to play.

And, credit where it is absolutely due, the council officers responsible have done a fantastic job - the new playground is a vast improvement, with plenty of updated equipment.

On the first weekend since it reopened it was packed, every item of equipment in use - great to see.

We’re grateful to everyone who supported our campaign to ensure the playground was reinstated and in-line with what local residents said they wanted to see - it’s a great success.

But we’re particularly pleased because this play area is really important for families in the area, notably those who live in the flats to the side of the park, who don’t have back gardens where children can play.

The new, well-equipped playground is a very short walk for those families, and allows hours of safe fun, particularly when the sun is shining on such a bright spring day!
